The 800 and 251 Mic Models Are Here

Townsend Labs' Sphere Microphone System now includes two new models. The first is based on the classic Telefunken 251. The later is the result of a complete study of the more modern Sony C800G.

The full deep tone of the 251 is balanced by a beautiful detailed top end and heard on countless hit tracks. The 251 model is a proud addition and as always, includes selectable polar patterns thus fully capturing the directional details that truly embody its characteristics.

Present in plentiful modern R&B and pop productions, the Sony C800G is a detailed focused microphone that is quite revealing of the source. Often selected for vocals, this model is sure to be a favorite among Sphere owners.

Each of these two models is already available for no additional charge for all supported platforms including AAX Native, Audio Units, VST2, VST3 and UAD2. The UAD Sphere update is included in UAD v9.2 (or later) available at and provides near latency free monitoring when used with Apollo.

Late last year, Townsend Labs introduced the Sphere L22 microphone system through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. As an incentive to share the successful campaign, Townsend set a stretch funding goal of $300,000 USD and promised these two models by the middle of 2017. They are proudly now available for download.

For those wanting to try a demo of Sphere, the plug-in can be downloaded along with prerecorded Sphere microphone tracks, so you can hear it in action. Download access requires an account at To login or create an account visit:
