We're excited to return to Anaheim in January, and this show is going to be more exciting and better than ever. We'll be in a new location, we'll have a more spacious booth, and there are more workshops and presentations for you to enjoy. Here is everything you need to know about Townsend Labs at NAMM 2020.
How to find Townsend Labs at NAMM 2020
We've said Goodbye to the old location between Hall A and the Arena. Instead, you'll find our booth on the second floor of the new ACC North ('North Hall'). The booth number for our bright and spacious temporary home is #18326.
Don't be a stranger - say hello to Chris, Erik, Bobby, Julian, and the rest of the Townsend Labs team! We want to answer your questions and hear your thoughts about the Sphere L22, so do stop by whether or not you own a mic. The L22 will be set up for you to try with the priceless core collection of mic models, as well as the UAD Putnam and Ocean Way Mic Collections. Townsend Labs at NAMM 2020 is your chance to meet the team and experience Sphere first hand.
35th TEC Award Nomination
In case you missed it, the Sphere L22 has been nominated for the prestigious TEC Award in the 'Microphone - Recording' category. This year's lucky winners will be announced at the NAMM show, so keep your fingers crossed for us. Learn more about the award and how to vote here.
If you've participated in our TEC Award giveaway, please note that the winner will be drawn after the NAMM show. Keep your fingers crossed, because if we win the award, we have pledged to give away a second L22 mic.
Avid meets Townsend Labs
We're particularly honored that our friends at Avid have invited us to their Main Stage for a series of talks and presentations. See the schedule below for all the details. Also, make sure to check the Avid site for the latest updates about their activities.
Avid Main Stage Events:
- Thursday, Jan 16th: 1:00 pm - With Grammy-winning producer/engineer Joe Chiccarelli (Morrissey, The Raconteurs)
- Friday, Jan 17th: 12:30 pm
- Saturday, Jan 18th: 4:30 pm - With Grammy-winning producer/engineer Cassidy Turbin (Beck)
- Sunday, Jan 19th: 3:00 pm
There will also be at least one Sphere L22 set up and ready to go at the Avid booth (#15500 in the ACC North, lower level). The Sphere plug-in's newly added support for AAX DSP will, of course, be showcased.
The recently released version 1.3 of the Sphere plug-in introduced AAX DSP support, making Sphere the only mic modeling solution for this platform. As a result, owners of Pro Tools HDX systems can now enjoy perfect integration of the Sphere microphone into their existing DSP-based workflow. Using the AAX DSP plug-in, HDX users can monitor the over 30 included microphone models with near-zero latency while recording.
In addition to the Avid events, the Audio Engineering Society has invited us to participate in the AES Academy at NAMM again. This year, our CEO Chris Townsend and product expert Julian David will present two fascinating presentations:
On Friday, Jan 17th, Julian will try to answer the question, "Is There a Modeling Microphone in Your Future?". If you're new to virtual microphones and mic modeling, this one will have everything you need to know.
The second event on Saturday, on the other hand, is all about virtual microphone applications in audio education. If you are an educator in audio or music production, this one is tailor-made for you.
Please note: AES Academy events require an entirely separate registration with an associated fee. A regular NAMM pass does not grant access to the event. Find out more about the AES Academy 2020 here.
