The Sphere L22 Microphone Modeling System, first welcomed as a standout crowdfunding success by the international professional audio community, is now shipping and available for order through leading professional audio suppliers around the globe.
"The crowdfunding interest generated interest from audio distributors around the world who represent many top-tier brands" states Erik Papp, Co-Founder “Now, with the crowdfunding promises delivered, we are offering Sphere around the world with the support of an excellent group of distribution partners.”
The Future of Microphone Modeling
Accurate and flexible, Sphere sets new standards in microphone modeling technology, delivering the real three-dimensional characteristics of the most sought-after microphones of all time.
When combined with the included Sphere plug-in, Sphere is the most comprehensive microphone modeling solution available to date, with a palette of ten of the most sought-after mics (at time of introduction), and the ability to change the polar pattern and proximity control even after tracking.
With the reception it's had, the Sphere L22 looks set to be a significant contributor to countless recordings in the coming years.
Pioneering 3D Techniques
The development of the new Sphere technology has been a labor of love for audio veterans Chris Townsend and Erik Papp, founders of Townsend Labs Inc:
“I first started thinking about the microphone modeling problem several years ago during my work in emulating guitar amplifiers with various vintage microphone combinations,” Townsend explains. “Traditional modeling techniques like those used in classic hardware emulation don’t fully address the characteristics that truly make microphones unique and desirable. To capture those key spatial details, we pioneered methods to study microphones in three dimensions.”
The included Sphere plug-in is available for both Mac and PC in the VST, VST3, AAX (native) and Audio Units formats. It additionally supports Apollo Interfaces and UAD-2 hardware, making Sphere the first UAD-powered microphone and also offering near-zero latency monitoring with Sphere modeled microphones and UAD powered plug-ins.
